Higher prices at the wholesale level, along with rising oil prices, meant higher prices at the pump.
Still, prices are roughly 10 cents cheaper than a year ago.
The lowest price in the region, as well as the state, is $2.79 at the Murphy Express on West Main Street in Tupelo, as of 10 a.m. Elsewhere in Tupelo, it’s $2.89 at Sam’s to $2.97 at Kroger.
The highest price is $3.07 at several stops, including Corinth, Ripley and Starkville.

Murphy Express is open on the corner of West Main and Maynard streets in Tupelo, having had a soft opening in Friday. A grand opening is planned in the next week or two.
And it seems there might be a bit of a price war going on. Earlier this morning, it was selling gas at a whopping low (for Tupelo anyway) $2.58 a gallon, according to MississippiGasPrices.com.
Biz Buzz drove by moments ago, and it’s back up to $2.78. That’s a pretty wild price swing. And of course, the Dodge’s Store and J’s Store also are at $2.78. The Kroger at Crosstown – at least for now – was at $2.86.
The Murphy Express store manager said the store, open 24 hours a day, will have the lowest prices on beer, cigarettes and gas in Tupelo. Works for me.
The store employs 13 people.
For the first time in a while, most gas prices at stations surveyed across Northeast Mississippi are under $3 today.
“Most” because two notable exceptions are in Oxford and Starkville, which ring up at $3.07 and $3.01, respectively
The statewide average is $3.02; a year ago, it was $3.21

The lowest price we found was at Sam’s in Tupelo, at $2.91 – provided you’re a member. If not, add a couple more cents.
Other stations under $3 were:
- $2.93 in Fulton
- $2.95 in Sherman
- $2.97 at several places in Tupelo and New Albany
- $2.99 in Amory and Belden.
The highest prices were in Oxford $3.12 and Starkville $3.11. Poor college kids.

Gas prices around Northeast Mississippi have jumped around lately, dipping below $3 in many places for a couple of weeks before drifting up again.
The lowest price in the region is in Fulton and Sherman at $2.98 a gallon, followed closely by Amory, New Albany and Sam’s in Tupelo at $2.99.
Ripley is the highest at $3.17.
Statewide, the average is $3.10 a gallon, while the U.S. average is $3.32.

Gas prices this week rose a bit in Northeast Mississippi, and everything is above $3 again.
The lowest price our survey found was at Sam’s Club in Tupelo, where members paid $3.01 a gallon.
The highest price was in Ripley, at $3.19.
Statewide, the average was $3.14 a gallon; a year ago it was $3.48.
Then national average is $3.37; a year ago, it was $3.72.
The lowest price in the state was $2.89, in Richland, according to mississippigasprices.com.

in Fulton, you can get gas for $2.98, while a little farther west on U.S. Highway 78, in New Albany and Belden, it’s $2.99.
All in all, most prices are hovering under $3.10 a gallon.
Then there’s Oxford at $3.17.
The statewide average is $3.11 , while nationwide it’s $3.37. A year ago, prices averaged $3.54 and $3.80, respectively.
