Mark your calendars for May 3, when Mississippi Axe Throwing Company opens in Tupelo.
Owner Steve Willoughby plans to have the six-lane axe-throwing venue opening its doors on May 3 at 3239 Tom Watson Drive.
“Tupelo in my opinion is a very good market for things like this,” said Willoughby, who threw his first axe just last month.
He said he immediately took the idea and had a business plan formulated, doing all the calculations. Now a representative for New York Life insurance, he’s had experience in retail, from a printing company to having a Radio Shack store.
Within 10 days of coming up with the plan, he got a lease on the building.
Mississippi Axe Throwing will initially be open Fridays from 3 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays 10 a.m. to midnight and Sundays 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the week, it will be available for private parties, corporate events, etc.
Willoughby hopes to build a league to join the World Axe Throwing League, competing in national competitions.
Pricing will be $20 per person per hour.
All equipment will be provided, but customers need to wear closed-toe shoes. And of course, waivers must be signed by all participants.
