The opening of BULLDOG BURGER CO. in Tupelo, which had been planned for this spring, has been pushed back a few months, likely to July.
That’s the word from Bernard Bean, the chief operating officer of Eat With Us group – which has Sweet Peppers, Harveys, the Grill and Bulldog Burger brands under its wing.
The hope had been to finish the parking lot and get to work inside the building at 311 S. Gloster – the white building across from McAlister’s Deli.
But the wet weather during the fall and into winter has delayed the work. So instead of an opening this spring, it will be this summer, likely in Jully, Bean said.
Prior to the Eat With Us group acquiring the property, the building was home to Wigginton Machine Works for 35 years, from 1983 – 2018. The building also was once home to a Studebaker and Pontiac dealership.
The building, built in 1947, is some 7,200 square feet. And Bean confirmed that the plans announced in November haven’t changed about the building itself: It will be home to the restaurant, but there also will be retail space available.
The restaurant will employ about 60 people, Bean said.
