The renovation at Harveys in Tupelo is only a week in (with four weeks to go), but everything is going according to plan so far, said John Bean, chief operating officer for Eat With Us, the restaurant group that owns Harveys (along with Sweet Peppers Delis and The Grill locations).
As mentioned earlier, the 9,000-square-foot restaurant is going to be all on one level, so no more stairs and ramps. And there will be much more light, as you can see from the photos. It won’t be quite this bright once the new furnishings go in, but it will be noticeably brighter, and the dining area will be more open. A glass wall will separate the kitchen from the dining area, and another glass wall will separate the waiting area up front from the dining area as well. A small vestibule will be added up front so that the rush of cold or hot air won’t enter and leave the building like before.
The renovation is the first for the restaurant in nearly 30 years. Harveys in Tupelo opened in June 1989 on South Gloster Street in what had been the former bottling plant for Coca-Cola
We’ll update you along the way during the process over the next month. The restaurant is set to reopen Aug. 6.
Meanwhile, here are a few interior photos
