Harveys restaurant in Tupelo will undergo a five-week makeover starting Sunday.
The restaurant opened in June 1989 on South Gloster Street, and nothing much has changed over the years.
“There’s never been a full renovation, and it’s time to upgrade it,” said Bernard Bean, the chief operating officer of Eat With Us Group.
Eat With Us is the parent company of Harveys; Sweet Peppers Deli; Bulldog Burger Co.; Smackers; and Grill restaurants in Tupelo, Starkville and Columbus.
Harveys remains open and the work will begin after the close of business Saturday.
A similar renovation was done three years ago at the Harveys in Starkville, which opened in 1987 and kickstarted the Eat With Us Group into what it is today.
As for the renovation in Tupelo, Bean said there are many changes in store, including:
- Everything will be on one level. “There won’t be any more ramps or stairs,” he said.
- The dining area will be more open, have new chairs, and it also will be brighter.
- Six to eight items will be added to the menu.
- The exterior will be remodeled, with work including an extended canopy over the curbside pickup area.
According to records filed with the city’s Development Services department, the cost of the project exceeds $600,000.
