The former Megasports building is getting new life, but the details haven’t been revealed yet.
It’s been nearly 15 years since Megasports Go-Karts and Fun Center closed in Tupelo, but the building is finally getting new life.
Joe Estess, who owns Magnolia Business Centre on McCullough Boulevard and the nearby Pappi’s Garage on Commerce Street, bought the building a few months ago. Work to clean out the building has started, but Estess said he’s not quite ready to publicly announce his plans for the building.
And it’s a fairly big building at 36,000 square feet, which was Megasports from 1994 until its closing in August 2003.
John Gilbert and his son, Johnny, opened the all-in-one entertainment venue Megasports in the former Sack n Save grocery store in mid-1994. It was home to a go-kart track, Hole-in-One-Golf, baseball batting cage, arcade games, Discovery Zone playground tunnels and a laser tag arena. It also housed the Grand Slam Grill.
Estess isn’t planning to open an entertainment venue, however – that much we do know.
And no, it won’t be a Target.
But if everything comes together, Estess said he’ll make an announcement, and we’ll pass it along.
