The former Staples storefront has been painted a nice Goodwill blue.
Goodwill is opening a retail store in Tupelo in the former Staples office supply store.
The store is next to PetSmart, behind Cracker Barrel and adjacent to Home Depot in the Cross Creek Shopping Center off Barnes Crossing Road.
The 24,000-square-foot space was a Staples store from early 2001 until July 2015.
The Goodwill store will open in July or August, sources say. Goodwill has not yet officially responded with additional info, but we’ll pass it along when they do.
The Goodwill bookstore and donation site on McCullough will remain open when the store opens.
Goodwill says it generated $5.71 billion in total revenue from all sources in fiscal year 2016, with $77.5 million coming from government and privately funded grants. It says 87 percent of the revenue was spent on programs. In 2016, more than 35 million people used the nonprofit’s in-person and online services to further their careers or manage their money, the company said.
With more than 3,200 stores, Goodwill brought in $4.16 billion (making up the bulk of the organization’s total revenue) from the stores and from its online auction site.
So what what exactly is a Goodwill store? Here’s what the company says on its website:
Whether you’re searching for unique fashion-forward finds, basic items for your family, home décor at a discount or supplies for your next do-it-yourself project, you can find everything you need at your local Goodwill store.
And a Goodwill purchase is one you can feel good about – when you make the choice to shop at Goodwill, you’re choosing to support valuable employment, education and training services in your community to help people find a job and get control of their finances. The money you spend stays directly in your community and gives people an opportunity to make a fresh start.
