Sweet Peppers Deli recently vacated its space at the food court at The Mall at Barnes Crossing, but it wasn’t because business was bad or the rent was too high.
After 15 years, it was simply a business decision to not renew its lease at the mall, said Bernard Bean, chief operating officer for Eat With Us, the restaurant group that owns Peppers.
“It was our only remaining mall location,” Bean said. “If we still had several mall locations, we would have kept it open. But the lease had expired, and we chose not to renew it.”
Mall general manager Jeff Snyder said, “We were proud to have Sweet Peppers as part of our mall family and fully occupied food court. They are a great organization and perhaps we will work together again.”
As for filling the spot left open by Sweet Peppers, Snyder said the mall has received “strong interest in the food court, which has led its occupancy to be at 100 percent. We have others who have shown interest, but no space was available. It’s a good problem to have. We’ll seek the best replacement for the mall food court.”
