With a nearly $1 million seating project nearly complete, the Malco Tupelo Commons Theater has also added several amenities and tweaked its name.
Memphis-based Malco Theatres debuted the all-new Tupelo Commons Cinema Grill in recent days.
The upgraded amenities include reserved seating in new luxury reclining chairs made by New Albany-based VIP Cinema Seating. The project is valued at more than $951,000.

The theater also has a renovated concession area with a new expanded menu offering gourmet selections that include salads, appetizers like fried wontons and toasted ravioli; main entrees like pizza, chicken panini and burgers; and desserts like apple pie, cupcakes and cheesecake.
Future plans call for in-seat food delivery, as well as a full bar serving beer, wine and cocktails. The theater applied for an alcohol permit in March.
Malco also has added Dolby Atmos audio system in theatres No. 5 and No. 6.
Dolby Atmos is “a break-through, next-generation audio solution that changes the way people experience entertainment sound,” the company said. Dolby Atmos “places sounds anywhere in the auditorium, delivering a unique and compelling experience with natural and lifelike soundscapes, surpassing anything else currently available in theatrerss.”
Both auditoriums also received a new Harkness Screens Perf 2.2 High Gain White Screen with a Digital Perforation Pattern that increases light reflectance into the auditorium and provides a “brighter and better quality viewing experience.”
”We are excited to bring these new amenities to the Tupelo market,” said Jimmy Tashie, Malco’s senior executive Vice President of operations. “For over 70 years we have been a proud member of this community and feel like it is our second home. Our emphasis has always been on quality and we have always stressed the importance of staying ahead of the curve” in sight and sound technology. Now, we’ll be adding another layer of excellence by increasing the seating comfort for our patrons.
“Our family has been in this business for over 100 years, and we’ve always embraced any new idea that enhances the moviegoing experience for our patrons. We believe these new amenities will add to the already fun and exciting experience of going out to the movies.”
Final renovations are expected to be complete this week.
