Diners have been looking for more options in Tupelo, and we have one in Divine, which bills itself as a Latin American fusion restaurant.
It’s located in the corner of the building at 2307 W. Main St., where La Carreta Mexican Restaurant used to be.
Hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for dinner, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed on Sunday. Phone is (662) 260-4538.
The food is served cafeteria style, with several entrees and salads available. More on that in a moment.
So what kind of Latin American fusion are we talking about? At Divine, it’s a mixture of foods and flavors from Colombia and Venezuela.
“It’s not like Mexican food, it’s a lot spicier – not hot-spicy, but flavor-spicy,” one of the co-owners said.
Colombian food is influenced by Spanish, African, Arab and Asian cuisines, while Venezuelan food is influenced by Spanish, Portuguese, French, West African and Native American cuisines.
On today’s food line was pork in wine sauce, hamburgers with mushroom sauce, grilled chicken (which could be served with mango, spicy peanut or orange sauce, or all three if you want to sample them), scalloped potatoes with beef , shredded beef, black beans and a couple of salads, including an unsuual chicken salad (it had peas, potatoes and carrots, making it more like a potato salad with shredded chicken and vegetables).
And did I mention that a non-alcoholic sangria was served, too?
