No doubt you’ve heard plenty of speculation about what is going to go into the former South location on North Gloster Street.
According to some of the rumors, it’s going to be an oyster and/or seafood bar. Or it’s going to be a burger joint. Or perhaps a pizza place. The list goes on and on.
We have an answer – sort of.
The good news is that the building has been purchased, and it’s owner is none other than Adam Morgan – yes, Blue Canoe‘s Adam Morgan – who has plans for the place.
South closed last July after a 4 1/2-year run and was put up for sale by owner Hamp Hughes.
But Morgan’s not quite ready to unveil what his plans are quite yet. He was, however, kind enough to tell me this:
“We’re going to be bringing a totally unique concept and philosophy to town. The building will be becoming two separate businesses. We’re going to be doing some things that are familiar to folks, but elevated to another level.
“I’ve been wanting to do something else for quite a while now, but nothing ever made perfect sense. I love the location, and I’m excited to be bringing something else interesting to the NoGlo (North Gloster) area.”
A little history on the building: Before it was South, it had been a Shoney’s for many years, closing in May 2011 for “renovations” that never happened. The company said in December of that year that it had decided to close the location permanently. Hughes bought the building in July 2012, and following extensive renovations inside and out, the building opened as South in February 2013,
So now that’s over with, I suppose we can return to speculating what Adam has up his sleeve. This should be interesting to see what develops.
