The food court at The Mall at Barnes Crossing has had some empty spaces to fill for awhile, and we have an update for you because a few openings are around the corner..
Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food
• First, we mentioned back in October that Teppanyaki Sun Japanese Grill was going to open in November. Obviously that didn’t happen, but it is now scheduled to open in January. It’s located in the former Cajun Grill space between Chick-Fil-A and Magic Wok.
The owners and operators of Teppanyaki Sun also own the Charley’s Philly Steaks location at the food court, and that’s where applications are available.
• A second restaurant opening in the food court is one we told you about in October as well.
It’s not exactly a restaurant though, as it serves ice cream. But not just any ice cream. The place is Yolo Rolo, which sells rolled ice cream.
So what is rolled ice cream? According to voanews.com and others, it’s often called “Thai stir-fried ice cream” because it’s made in the same way people cook meat and vegetables on a grill.
Then the ice cream begins to freeze. Next, the chef spreads it in a thin layer over the cold surface. After a few seconds, the chef uses a tool to scrape the ice cream off the cold surface and turn it into a roll.
The rolls are then put in a cup and covered with fruit or flavored syrup.
The Tupelo location is scheduled to open in February in the former Tutti Frutti location.
There are locations at the Parkway Place mall in Huntsville and the Oak Court mall in Memphis.
• A third restaurant also has its sights set on the food court, going in the space that was most recently Jimmy’s Burgers & Fries (which moved to South Gloster Street in front of Walls).
While the mall didn’t confirm the name, only saying it was going to be a restaurant coming soon, we have confirmation from other sources of who will be.
It will be American Deli, which has an eclectic menu that includes salads, chicken tenders, buffalo wings, burgers, fried rice, gyros, fried shrimp, fried fish and a few types of sandwiches.
It is scheduled to open in March.
