Northeast Mississippi Community College’
s Division of Business and Engineering Technology will host a Business and Industry Expo on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the career/technical area behind Dean Hall on the Booneville campus.
The expo also coincides with homecoming at NEMCC.
Students will have the opportunity to meet with Northeast instructors, students currently enrolled in a Northeast career/tech program and industry partners participating in the event.
“High school students will have an opportunity to interact with industry experts and see firsthand the career choices that are available,” said associate vice president of career and technical education Jason Mattox.
“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 58 percent of Mississippi’s jobs are middle-skill, meaning they require more than a high school diploma, but less than a four year degree.
“Northeast can equip students with the skills and training necessary to fill these positions.”
Tours of Northeast career and technical facilities will be available, as well as opportunities to compete in related contests for various prizes, including scholarships.
Northeast career and technical programs scheduled to participate are Automotive Mechanics, Automotive Services Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Diesel Power Technology, Drafting, Design & 3D Modeling Technology, Heating & Air Technology, Information Systems Technology and Precision Manufacturing & Machining Technology. Welding and Truck Driver Training are Workforce programs that will also take part in the Expo.
Representatives from regional industries such as COMP Cams, Thompson Machinery, Yates Construction, Snap-on Tools, TCI Automotive, Trench Safety and Supply, Century Construction, Performance Torque Converter, Ashley Furniture, VIP Cinema Seating, ThyssenKrupp, Pryor and Morrow Architects, Clark Power Services, Stribling Equipment, Murphy Brothers, Extreme outdoors, Matco Tools, Hutcheson Auto and Transmission, Dees Oil Company, Big M Trucking, Empire Truck Sales, Morgan Van Lines, Marietta Wood Supply, ADF Automotive, Colburn’s Supply, Prentiss County Vocational and Technical School, Dusty Parker Architects, ATK, Mississippi State School of Architecture, Cyient, and the Booneville Fire Department will also be on hand to showcase career opportunities with all those in attendance.

Also, Students are invited to attend the Homecoming pep rally where the 2017 queen and her court will be introduced. The Tigers will take on Mississippi Delta at Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m. that evening.
