In a matter of weeks, St. Jean’s Bakery & Cafe will be opening in downtown Tupelo.
Co-owners Chris Sanders and Melissa Murphy will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant’s location at 206 W. Main St. in downtown Tupelo (the former home of Yellow Lovebirds) Tuesday-Saturdays. It will be closed on Sunday and Monday.
So what’s on the menu? Where should we begin? It’s quite eclectic, but also the theme is clear with its Cajun and Creole=themed menu.
And many of the baked goods – breads, cakes and pies – come from 150-year-old family recipes from Murphy’s grandmother and great-grandmother.
Head chef is Pete Nicholson, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of Louisiana in Baton Rouge in 1994. He’s not new to the area – you may remember him when he was a Park Heights.
Sanders has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant business as well, having helped open several restaurants in Tupelo, including Red Lobster and Stables Bar and Grill.
Beignets, of course, will be the signature breakfast item, and served all day. Yes, there’s chicory coffee to go with it if you’d like, too.
For lunch po-boys will be served, and signature Cajun classics like gumbo (seafood and chicken & sausage), red beans and rice also are offered.
The dinner menu includes crawfish etoufee, tournedos au poivre, blackened redfish, Cajun-roast chicken and Nicholson’s New Style Shrimp Creole.
