Biz Buzz did some driving around today to see what might be going on in Tupelo, and two things we wanted to pass along to y’all.
• First up is a construction photo of Firehouse Subs on West Main Street in Tupelo.
Looks like work is progressing well. As we’ve reported earlier, the location should be opening in late spring/early summer, according to franchise owner Chris Stephenson of Oxford.
Stephenson opened his Oxford Firehouse Subs in 2011. The Tupelo location is expected to seat about 60 people and employ about 20 full- and part-time employees.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain has more than 730 locations in 39 states and PuertoRico. In Mississippi, there are locations in Biloxi, Flowood, Hattiesburg, Oxford, Starkville, Hattiesburg and Southaven.

Next, we have the building pictured to the right, which had been sitting on the corner of Lumpkin and West Main in Tupelo.
It’s now located next to where the former McDonald’s was on South Gloster Street, in front of Wall’s Bargain Center, Kilgore’s Supermarket and Dollar General. Still no word on the plans for it, though we’ve heard through the grapevine a barbecue restaurant is a possibility.
Before it’s current home, and before it was moved to Lumpkin/West Main, this building sat on South Gloster between McAlister’s Deli and BancorpSouth. It was Chips and Salsa, Peggy’s Place and Guthrie’s. Oh, and before all that, it was a Krystal.
Talk about repurposing this building. Looking like it’ll be repurposed again – we just don’t know yet.
