Grady’s restaurant making return to Tupelo – sort of
Those of you with longer memories than me (I’ve only been here for 10 years) might remember Grady’s 10-cent Hamburger Huts, also known as Grady’s Hamburgers.
The daughter of Grady Wood, the founder, is opening a restaurant paying homage to the restauranteur. Joanna Wood is opening Grady’s, on the corner go South Green Street and Daybrite Drive, in Tupelo.
The location was most recently Jed’s Gumtree Cafe (and before that, it was Whiteside’s and Spencer’s , among others)
Wood said this is also the original spot for Grady’s Hamburgers in Tupelo, so it’s come full circle.
“We’re bringing the past back,” she said.
Some of the old family recipes will be employed, including its country fried steak, bone-in pork chop sandwich, homemade mustard relish and sauces and vegetables. A southern food buffet line will be in place like the other restaurants that have been there. And of course the hamburger, but rest assured it won’t be selling for 10 cents.
“Everything’s homemade,” she said of the food.
Opening is set for early March.
