Sonic Drive-In relocation still planned in Tupelo

Back in April, we told you about the dismantling of  some of the old Krystal building on South Gloster Street next to McAlister’s.

Part of that building went to the corner of West Main and Lumpkin streets, but the South Gloster site where it was was essentially cleared to make way for the relocation of the Sonic Drive-In at 1197 S. Gloster.

That was supposed to happen by October, but  obviously that hasn’t happened.

So, we checked  the Sonic franchise owner, Jaco Foods in Columbus, which said the relocation is still planned.

“Yes, we should be breaking ground within the next 2 months,” was the reply.

The  new Sonic was most recently Chips and Salsa, a Mexican restaurant, and before that, it was briefly Peggy’s Place and Guthrie’s Fried Chicken Tenders.

There are three other Sonics in town, on North Gloster , West Main Street and McCullough Boulevard
