It’s been long in the making, but Firehouse Subs will be opening next spring in Tupelo in the former Dixie Gas station on West Main Street. That’s across from Wendy’s and Starbucks if you’re wondering where it is exactly.
The restaurant covering 2,025 square feet will seat up to 61 people, according to plans filed with the city.
Chris Stephenson, the franchisee who opened his Oxford location in 2011, said once construction begins, it will take about five months to have the restaurant ready to open.
“Hopefully, we’re looking at April or May, assuming we don’t run into any problems getting things started,” he said.
A Firehouse Subs store, not necessarily what the one in Tupelo may look like.
Stephenson said employment at the Tupelo location will be similar to what he has in Oxford, which is a 2,400-square-foot store.
“I have 4-5 fulltimers, and 15 part-timers. A lot of them are college kids,” he said.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain has more than 600 locations in 35 states and PuertoRico. In Mississippi, there are locations in Oxford, Starkville, Hattiesburg and Flowood.
It was first announced last year that the restaurant was on its way to opening in Tupelo (click here for previous coverage).
Stephenson he had to put the project on the back burner to work on a few other things, but is ready to get the Tupelo store up and running.
