Tecumseh adding 150 jobs in $10M expansion
Tecumseh‘s flagship compressor, which is sold globally, will be made at the company’s Verona manufacturing plant in the Tupelo Lee Industrial Park South.
The addition of the line at the plant not only retains its current 350-member workforce, but will add 150 additional employees over the next five years.
It’s a $10 million investment for the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company. The Mississippi Development Authority is providing $4.6 million in loans, grants and infrastructure funds.
Tecumseh officials said the Verona plant was selected over facilities in China, India and Eastern Europe. In addition, the move means some of the current production of the AE2 commercial refrigeration compressor will be shifted from Brazil and France to Mississippi.
Components for the compressor are made worldwide, but the Verona plant will be the one plant that will build the components and manufacture the product all under one roof.
