UPDATE: Bill Webster of Burke’s Outlet parent company Bealls said the Tupelo store covers 20,000 square feet and will employ 20 people.
He said Burke’s has been eyeing Tupelo for some time.
“It’s a strong market draw,” he said, noting the company has stores in Corinth and Columbus.
Burke’s Outlet in Tupelo is coming along nicely. The store is in the former Books-A-Million, The exterior work is finished, and the interior looks ready for the shelving, racks, counters etc.
And look: A sign on the window says the store is set to open at noon on April 5. That’s 2 weeks from today.
Burke’s, based in Bradenton, Fla., has more than 160 stores in 11 states. The company says, “Customers can find brand name apparel and accessories for the entire family at up to 70% off department store prices. In addition most stores carry shoes, home furnishings, gifts, and toys.”
So, think along the lines of T.J. Maxx, Ross, etc.
Webster said “the more the merrier” when it comes to competition. The Tupelo Burke’s is in the same shopping plaza with T.J. Maxx.
