Monday 6:22 p.m. update:

Scanner just said it will keep BOLO active on the bank robbery suspect until TPD confirms subject is in custody. Interesting.

Monday 6 p.m. update:

Sounds like a suspect is in custody, per the police scanner. Getting more info. Scanner just said to disregard the BOLO because the “suspect is in custody.” Repeated that last part loud and clear.

DJournal’s Todd Vinyard just got off the phone with TPD and they said they can’t confirm at this time, but scanner has said “suspect in custody” twice.

Via police scanner starting at 4:25ish:

Around 4:25 p.m, Renasant Bank at 3690 North Gloster Street in Tupelo was allegedly robbed.

The branch is across from Sam’s Club. It also shares the intersection with Pier 1 Imports.

Police are searching for a white male wearing a tan/brown Carhartt-type coat with a large hood. About 25 to 30 years old. 5-foot-9-inches. He’s on foot   in a four-door silver Toyota Tacoma with an Alabama tag on the back and an Auburn tag on the front, according to the scanner via Party Works customers/employees.

Suspect has money in his pants.

Was last seen heading toward Longhorn Steakhouse and Lowe’s.

5:15 p.m. update: Lots of police in Barnes Crossing area. Sounds like officers now are checking Gloster/Trace intersection. Police also are searching in the field behind Sam’s.

Unknown if he has a weapon. Showed a note saying he had gun. (Scanner now saying to act like he has a gun).

Scanner speculation if this is the same guy who on Friday allegedly robbed the Renasant Bank branch in Booneville (previous story). The suspect on Friday is white man who went into the West Market Street bank, passed a note demanding money to one of the tellers and left with an undetermined amount of cash. He hasn’t been caught yet.

Officers are searching North Gloster in the Barnes Crossing area. Would avoid area. Sounds like there may be delays.

4:49 update from John Oxford, spokesman for Renasant, via Twitter: All Renasant employees are safe. We’re working with authorities to find the robber.

He said branch now is closed for the day.

We have a reporter on the way on the scene. More as this story develops.
