At 7:22 a.m. this morning, the 100,000th Corolla was assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi in Blue Springs.
The milestone comes almost a year after TMMMS began production on Oct. 24, 2011.A public “line-off” ceremony was held nearly a month later.
This particular Corolla, in Barcelona Red with a dark gray interior, is headed to a customer in southern California.
Toyota Mississippi is proud to produce our 100,000th Corolla,” said Toyota spokesman Victor Vanov. “By putting our customers first, we strive to reward them with a smile by ensuring that safety and quality is built into every Corolla that rolls off the line here in Blue Springs.”
Vanov said hiring hasn’t stopped at the plant, which continues to fill skilled worker positions an administrative posts.
When fully operational, the plant is expected to produce up to 150,000 Corollas a year. Toyota also builds the Corolla in Canada.
Through September, Toyota has sold 222,703 of the compact-sized Corolla. That’s up 18.6 percent from last year.
We thank our team members, suppliers and local business and community partners for their continued support and guidance. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in Mississippi and realize that our work has just begun,” Vanov said.
