Happy Halloween! We toured several of Tupelo’s Halloween stores earlier this month and got a chuckle from the costumes.

Click here to read our previous story about the hot outfits this year.

Tupelo’s Halloween stores:

• Costume World at Crosstown

• Party Works, across from Sonic on North Gloster

• Halloween Headquarters next to Hancock Fabrics

• Spirit next to Old Navy

All the stores are open today and still have costumes in stock if you are looking for something for tonight.

Sandy strands Tupelo tourist in Manhattan

Best of luck to Tupelo resident Mitch Fly as he tries to get back from vacation. Superstorm Sandy has kept him in the Big Apple all week.

From today’s Daily Journal (full story):

TUPELO – Tupelo resident Mitch Fly is stuck in Manhattan.

What was supposed to be a weekend vacation spent exploring the Big Apple has turned into rebooking canceled flights and searching for a safe place to sleep.

Fly and a friend arrived in New York around noon Friday – as the city was preparing for then-Hurricane Sandy’s arrival. The two were supposed to fly out Monday afternoon but thought they’d try to fly out Sunday as the city hunkered down and shut down public transit.

“All the flights were booked,” he said. “Our flights Monday and Tuesday were canceled.”

So, they found a hotel north of where they’d been staying – Chelsea to the Herald Square area in Midtown – and stocked up on water, drinks and snacks.

“We didn’t know if places would be open,” he said.
